1000hp Supercharged LSX Chevelle Gets Hyphy

Y’all already know that we love all types of rides here at Speed Society. If we have proven anything, it’s that yours truly, however, will always have garage space in my heart for domestic muscle, and this Daily Transmission from the guys at Hoonigan features one of the most iconic GM muscle cars of all time, the 1970 Chevelle.

This car is an ideal representation of how versatile the Chevelle platform really is, as you can see this is quite the departure from the typical approach taken by old school hotrodders. Instead, this ride pairs vintage iron with a little bit of pro touring influence and some modern flair under the hood to create a gorgeous, eye-catching ride that I’d personally love to get my hands on for a day or 2.

The powerplant, always the centerpiece of any hotrod build, is an LS with a substantial ProCharged bolted to the front, cramming GM’s little engine that could full of pressurized air, pushing the engine to crank out over 1,000 horsepower. Behind the LS powerplant, a six speed manual transmission gives the owner – Shaun Hewitt – the utmost level of control over the gear selection process, plus of course that means there’s a clutch in play for revving-and-dumping, which comes into play toward the end of the video. Out back, a Ford 9” harnesses the power and sends it out to the badass custom Formula series Forgiato wheels. Shaun says he typically runs drag radials out back, but since he knows what goes down at the Hoonigan compound, the mounted up a set of tires just for the smoke show.

Moving inside, the Chevelle is rocking a gorgeous custom interior with custom upholstered 5th gen Camaro seats, a hand-built center console to house the manual shifter, and a killer sound system, among other amenities and features.

All of this together makes for a great all-around ride that Shaun has no problem beating on, as you will see toward the end, when he unleashes the horsepower on those poor unsuspecting rear tires!
