1969 Steam Powered Chevelle – Built For General Motors

In the late 60’s and early 70’s, GM was seeking cleaner and more efficient ways to power their vehicles. One such alternative route they looked into was steam power, and they even went so far as to have a steam powered Chevelle built to see if that was a viable option. The Chevelle, a four-door Malibu configuration, features a steam powered four cylinder engine, a TH350 transmission, and a lossless steam system that doesn’t require a constant water source.

After they’d conducted their testing, GM gave the car back to the man who built it, an engineer named Bill Besler, who then donated it to a museum. Several years later, the car found its way to the collection of Tom Kimmel, who hopes to get it back up and running since everything seems to be in good shape. Hopefully he is able to get it fired up, as it would be amazingly cool to see a steam-powered Chevelle fired up and running again!
