Indy Mid-Engine Concept Corvette Foreshadowing the Future?

When it comes to news about the next Chevrolet Corvette to hit the streets, it seems like the headline is always the same. For the past, well, forever, it seems like everyone has been speculating that there would be some sort of variant of the car that would incorporate a mid-engine layout. While this would go against the grain of what the Corvette has been since its conception, highly altering the DNA of what everyone has come from the Corvette, a car that has struck success over the years, it seems like there’s a huge push to make it happen across the board.

Recently, it has been determined that FINALLY, there will be this sort of setup in the next generation of Corvette in the year 2020 but where did all of this speculation come from? It seems awfully odd that such a massive push would come out of nowhere. Why wouldn’t fans be looking for something like a mid-engine Chevrolet Camaro or something like a Ford Mustang?

While that might be a difficult concept to pinpoint exactly, some might argue that General Motors themselves put out a product that could have gotten enthusiasts thinking about the eventual shift from the car’s current layout to a mid-engine configuration.

If you follow along in the video down below, you’ll get the rundown on the 1986 Indy Mid-Engine concept Corvette, one of the cars that could’ve been a push to get this whole movement started. If you get the opportunity to take a close look at this thing, you’ll see just how it might be one of the earliest steps in the lineage to what we might just see in the year 2020. It really seems like what we’re seeing here isn’t only drastically different from other Corvettes but also seems to be incredibly ahead of its time.
