2000HP Toyota Land Cruiser, World’s Fastest SUV
Once you start chasing down a number of any kind, things can begin to get serious. For many of us, chasing down that number spirals out of control from using a simple setup to achieve a certain elapsed time on the drag strip or mph on the half mile all the way to a full, out of control, built machine that’s ready to spin Earth off of it’s axis. Sometimes, it spirals out of control of the point where we’re willing to open up our entire bank account to make something into a racing machine that can accomplish a certain metric that no other has ever amounted to before.
This time, we catch up with the team at Toyota as they head out and attempt to claim the record as the world’s fastest SUV. With the record standing at 211 mph, they really have a lot of work to do! Even though cars are out there blasting past 250 mph in a half mile these days, desensitizing everyone to records like these, you have to realize that achieving such a goal is certainly no easy feat, especially not in something the size of an SUV like the Toyota Land Cruiser.
With a goal like this, it isn’t something as simple as heading out there and throwing together some parts to go after the record, especially when you’re starting with something that’s geared toward off-road use.
Follow along with the crew down video below as they go through each and every step, testing, improving, and racing again until they finally muster up that head of steam that they had so desired. It’s incredible to watch how much they really changed on this vehicle to make it accomplish such a land speed record. It certainly is no easy feat, as you can see, and it will be interesting to see, if this record drops, just how far the team can push this Toyota!
