220 PSI Car Tire Explosion…. Tire Goes Boom!
Have you ever been filling up your tire with air and wondered exactly where the limits lie on how much pressure it can take? What would happen if you just kept going and going? How much air would the tire be able to hold before it eventually busted? Well, this time, we get an inside look at just that as this little DIY experiment takes that concept and tests it out. Now, the tire used here is incredibly old and dry rotted so you would have to assume that tires that you would use on your vehicle would be able to withstand a little bit more pressure than this old and cruddy piece of rubber that’s ready for the junkyard.
With a very long hose and lots of spacing between himself and the old tire, this guy gets to filling it up, using a high-pressure canister to send air all the way to the tire, building up that pressure inside all the way to 220 psi before the tire eventually lets loose, busting a hole in the side and flying up into the air! It looks like it’s a good thing that they put a good amount of space between themselves and the rubber because shrapnel could’ve definitely gone everywhere! We were definitely on edge as we were watching this display when the tire just kept building and building until he could build no more.
Check out the video down below that shows off the situation that has this tire being pushed to the absolute limit to see exactly how much pressure it can hold before all bets are off! We wouldn’t recommend trying this one at home, but that’s an experiment like this also raises the question of exactly how much pressure a brand-new street tire would be able to hold before it explodes. I guess that overall, the lesson learned here is that you should definitely watch the condition of your tires and be on the lookout for quick pressure changes because they can certainly do bad things to the integrity of your rubber.
