4-Cylinder Silverado Put to Test in “Mountain MPG” Run

When compared with the truck market of 10 to 15 years ago, the trends that we see today are definitely tackling some different obstacles. For example, not long ago was a time where it was all about having a substantial displacement and diesel engines were coming into the fold. Today, though, there seems to be more of a focus on smaller displacement forced induction applications along with a conversation that accompanies the looming electric technology. Things are changing and we’re not sure where they’re going to end up yet but as of today, we have some new concepts to talk about.

New for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, we see a day where a full-size Chevy truck is implementing four cylinders of displacement. To accompany the 2.9L is a single turbo and ideally, we think that this would be a truck that would exercise optimal fuel economy. The entry-level machine might be an attractive option for someone who maybe isn’t looking to pull the world along on a trailer but still needs the functionality of a pickup truck. Let’s be honest, most folks who have driven a pickup truck admit that they probably wouldn’t be able to live without this functionality, after all.

By following along with the video below, we get to see just how efficient this truck actually is. As the guys from TFLTruck take the Silverado through the mountains to see just how this four-cylinder is going to work, we get a really up close and personal look at how things are going to pan out for the small displacement engine. Will there ever come a day where the four-cylinder reigns supreme in the world of the full-size truck? We’re not sure that we would go quite that far yet but it looks like Chevrolet might be making a prediction not too far off.
