Future Performance Jeeps To Use ‘Trackhawk’ Name?
Jeep still uses an SRT badge for its high-performance Grand Cherokee despite the SRT division recently returning to its roots as an in-house tuner for Dodge, but in the future we may see the vehicle—and others like it—wear a “Trackhawk” badge. Allpar has discovered that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has filed a trademark for the Trackhawk name, which, if utilized, will most likely be used for high-performance Jeep models.

Jeep already uses the Trailhawk name for its models best suited for off-road trails. So, it stands to reason that a Jeep with the Trackhawk name attached will be the model best suited for the track. It also stands to reason that there will be more high-performance Jeeps beyond the current Grand Cherokee SRT. One possibility is a hot Cherokee fitted with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine destined for new SRT-enhanced Dart and Journey models, due in Dodge showrooms in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Nothing is official so this is mere speculation at this point but it’s a sensible move for FCA, which is still in the process of clearing up any confusion over what the SRT brand will represent going forward. Only yesterday it was revealed that FCA has disbanded the SRT Motorsports team, which was fielding the Dodge Viper GTS-R in the 2014 IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The move was made so that all future SRT efforts could be focused on Dodge’s product lineup.
Stay tuned for an update.
