DIY Welding with Car Batteries – How Safe Is it?
If you ever find yourself needing to do some welding and you don’t have an actual welder on hand, this video proves that you can pile up a few car batteries, join them in series using jumper cables to up the voltage, and actually create your own DIY welder.
While it’s hardly an actual welder, you an see that the method does work, as this guy – from the Rinoa Super-Genius YouTube channel – is able to weld a few random items together, using nothing more than jumper cables and welding rods he recovered from a construction site.
We can’t stress enough that if you do decide to try this, you need to be extremely careful. Batteries alone can be dangerous, but when you combine their output, you also increase the risk of shock or an explosion. You also need safety glasses to protect your eyes from any sparks or small pieces of flying metal. However, if you’re in a bind and have some batteries and jumper cables on hand, you can definitely make your own welder and get the job done.
