Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera Freeway Onramp Drift

While few people think Lamborghini and bargain go together in the same sentence, but the Gallardo proved to be just that for the high-end Italian automaker. With a production run that began in 2003, the Gallardo was built to be a lower-priced and slightly-lower performance model for those who wanted to own a Lambo but didn’t have the means to purchase a top-of-the-line Murcielago or Aventador. With a V10 powerplant pumping out over 500 HP and Lamborghini’s trademark all-wheel-drive drivetrain, the Gallardo, named for a legendary breed of fighting bull, was every bit a Lambo at a much more reasonable price range, around the $200K mark.

One of the more capable Gallardo editions, the LP570-4 Superleggera boasted a 562 horsepower engine and had the lowest curb weight of any Gallardo model at the time, tipping the scales at just 2,954 pounds thanks to the copious amount of carbon fiber used throughout the car. With the added horsepower and lighter weight, the Superleggera was one of the fastest and best handling special editions in the Gallardo bloodline.

With the all wheel drive configuration, drifting is hardly the first thing to come to mind when one thinks of a Lambo, but that doesn’t mean an experienced driver can’t send the tail out into a nice slide when provoked, and watching a svelte LP570 slide gracefully around this freeway on-ramp is truly a thing of beauty. It takes only 30 seconds to watch, and in that half-minute, we get to see the slide itself, then again in glorious slow motion, offering a great look at the brute strength of the V10 being harnessed masterfully by whomever resides in the driver’s seat. We love seeing supercars being driven like they were intended, not sitting in garages or being babied about as if they’ll break if you mat the gas and let those ponies scream!
