Single Turbo Tahoe Spools to Life, This Thing is Putting Everyone on Notice!
Going fast comes in all types of formats. Just because there is a roadmap to being the fastest that you possibly can doesn’t necessarily mean that everybody follows it. Sure, you could put a bunch of power behind a Foxbody Ford Mustang and make your way down the track or street as fast as possible with the flick of a wrist. While there’s definitely nothing wrong with that, as it’s a tried-and-true formula that I can get you to a stellar elapsed time and the quickest and probably cheapest way possible, there’s just something so special about going against the grain and building something that not everybody else has that’s really impressive when you stop and take a look at it.
This time, we take a ride along with Shane Cook and his Chevrolet Tahoe. Yes, you read that properly, we are looking at a family hauler that is designed for nothing more than carrying groceries and potentially a couple of people, that has been transformed into something a little bit more than that. With the help of a couple of key modifications including a Borg-Warner S478/87 turbocharger, a cam, and a little bit of headwork with a 4L80e transmission to back it all up, this turbo boat is able to flex its muscles all the way down the track as it scoots out in a hurry. It’s pretty impressive to watch this big boat of a truck get to work as quickly as this one does, punching home passes in the 9s.
If you follow along in the video below, you’ll be able to learn a little bit more about the SUV and what it has going on to give it the ability to out-hustle pretty much everything in its class. Heck, this truck is even capable of beating up on SUVs that were designed go fast. We would highly doubt that the majority of Chevrolet Trailblazer SS or Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 platforms would even hold a candle to this heavyweight.
