DENSO NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Vegas: Team Speed Society Qualifying Update
Qualifying is complete and the ladders are set for the first round of four-wide competition at the newly-expanded Strip at Las Vegas Motorsports Park just outside the shimmering desert oasis. All six of the Team Speed Society Racing drivers made the show and will line up four abreast Sunday morning at the DENSO NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.
In Pro Stock, Alex Laughlin goes into eliminations from the #5 qualifying spot with a solid 6.705, just four hundredths of a second off the number one spot, held by Greg Anderson. His first round quad of cars will feature Drew Skillman, Chris McGaha and Jeg Coughlin Jr, all three of whom are certainly formidable opponents. However, Laughlin has had a great car all year this season, and he’s looking to march through eliminations and take his first win out west.
Our drivers both qualified well in funny car, where Ron Capps will race out of the #4 qualifying spot, earned by his 3.953 lap, and Jonnie Lindberg is just outside the top half at #9 with a solid 3.998 run. We’re especially glad to see Lindberg getting a handle on his all-new car following his untimely top end tangle with John Force back at the Phoenix race. Capps, who had the car to beat for most of the season, will take on fellow DSR campaigner Jack Beckman, JFR rival Robert Hight and independent campaigner Gary Densham in his first round quad. Lindberg will have to contend with Courtney Force, Cruz Pedregon and Jim Campbell in the first round.
In the top fuel ranks, two of our drivers will face each other in their opening quad. Reigning Vegas spring race winner Antron Brown qualified in the #2 spot with a 3.772 and will face fellow DSR and Team Speed Society pilot Leah Pritchett, who landed at #7 with a 3.798. They’ll face Mike Salinas and Terry Totten in their quad, while Clay Millican, who qualified uncharacteristically low at #13 with a 3.987 will face a tough quad consisting of the team Capco cars of Billy and Steve Torrence and the resurgent Terry McMillen.
Eliminations kick off at noon tomorrow and will air on FS1 tomorrow evening from 6-9pm ET. Be sure to tune in and check out our drivers as they look to earn a spot in the history books as the winners of the very first 4-wide race at Vegas.
