A New Nissan Hyper Car Has Been Unveiled… Will It Make It Into Production?
Concept cars designed to be just that: a visual representation of where things may go in the future. While there have been a few concept cars that have gone into production in relatively close resemblance to their show form, they’re generally intentionally radical and not meant to be more than a glimpse at what could be.
One purpose we have seen served by concepts in many cases is to provide direction and push technology to a new level. While the cars as a whole are generally impossibly futuristic, many of the individual components or design cues do make their way into actual production cars, so it’s not exactly wasted time and effort when it comes to building a car that will never actually go into production.
A few years back, Nissan unveiled the Concept 2020 to a great deal of fanfare. You can easily distinguish some cues from the GTR, especially when looking at the car head-on, and the rear end seems to have borrowed inspiration from the Ford GT. If you look closely, you can see subtle hints from other cars, but the overall design is fresh and carries itself in a decidedly Nissanesque fashion.
The question, of course, is if the 2020 will come to life in production form. The original plan was to just build a digital representation of the car, but it was so well received that it became a playable car in the Playstation driving simulation game, Grand Turismo. Beyond that, the team was so overwhelmed with the response that they decided to build an actual rolling concept car to give fans what they wanted.
If they’ve been willing to take it this far, and the people seem to want to see the car continue to move toward production, could we see something like the 2020 from Nissan. Given the name, they better get to work on making it happen, since the 2020 model will be hitting showrooms in about a year. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see.
