What’s Inside Of A Car’s Muffler? Let’s Find Out!
When you take a look at a car rolling down the highway, it can be easy to forget how many parts have to function in unison in order to make it all work. Even for those of us to do work on cars and are familiar with how all of these components come together to make one cohesive picture that can get its people inside from A to B, there are certain parts that we really never get the opportunity to take a look inside of. These certain parts might just be bolted on and forgotten about but, when we do get the opportunity to check out inside of something like a muffler, it’s pretty interesting to take a look at.
In this video, we take a ride with Humble Mechanic as he shows us with the inside of this muffler pulled off of a Volkswagen and sliced in half. Now, this might not be the same design as every other muffler on other cars that you’ll find on the streets, but it does give you a good idea of some of the complex systems that are in place to make sure that the exhaust has just the right tone, even if that tone is close to nonexistent, depending on the car and what the point of the exhaust system on said car is supposed to accomplish.
If you follow the video below, you can get a unique look inside this muffler as it split open, showing you the baffles, drilled holes, and even fiberglass that’s stuffed inside to get to the very end goal of having a nice and quiet ride on a vehicle that’s designed to deliver you to work, maybe school, or any other sort of regular place on the beaten path. It might seem like a design that’s rather simple, however, this one had to have some pretty crazy engineering done to get to the point where it is today.
