Honda Announces New Talon UTV To Challenge Polaris RZR
Polaris just got a new challenger in the UTV market that just might have the clout to make a real run at unseating the reigning king of the hill. Not only does Honda’s new Talon UTV have the looks to make a splash, it has Honda’s massive brand following and marketing team helping push it along.
There will be two versions of the Talon offered initially. While overall they are very similar, there are a few key differences to distinguish the Talon 1000R and Talon 1000X from one another. Both are powered by the same naturally aspirated 999 cc engine and both are rated at 104 horsepower. For those familiar with the UTV industry, yes, that’s a little on the low side compared to what is out there now, but look for the aftermarket, and possibly Honda themselves, to offer up some solutions to add power relatively quickly. Official pricing has yet to be announced, but expect both models to come in right around the $20,000 mark.
The Talon 1000X is the narrower of the two, with a 64” overall width that is aimed more toward rock crawling and trail use. It has a three link rear suspension and will be available in pearl red or metallic blue with metallic grey accents.
The Talon 1000R is a bit wider at 68.4” and has a beefier four link suspension designed more for wide open spaces. The 1000R will come in pearl red or pearl green and tips the scales at 55 pounds heavier than the 1000X, likely attributed to the added width and beefier suspension pieces.
Honda says this is just the first of many SXS (side by side) announcements to come, so look for more models and trim levels to be revealed over the coming months and years. What do you think, Speed Society nation: can Honda threaten Polaris’ crown in the SXS world? Only time will tell, but I could see them being a serious threat!
