Tesla Model 3 Takes On Porsche GT2 RS In A Drag Race
Former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg living a life that most of us only dream about. The retired former champion won the F1 title in 2016 and walked away from the sport just days after locking up the title. Now he’s doing his spend to spend all the money he earned while behind the wheel of his Mercedes F1 car.
I personally discovered Rosberg’s vlog channel when he went to the Mercedes headquarters in Munich to be test fitted for his Mercedes AMG ONE. While I admittedly haven’t followed the channel all that closely, I do see enough to know that Rosberg has been having a lot of fun doing things any car guy or gal would love to do, such as racing his good friend Charlie on a Pier in Monaco.
Rosberg and Charlie decided to go head to head in two surprisingly well-matched cars, the Tesla Model 3 and the Porsche GT2 RS. While neither of these cars are built for straight-line acceleration, they do end up being a pretty stellar drag race, with the Model 3 taking the win by just a few feet of the GT2 RS.
After winning the race, Charlie takes the wettest victory lap ever, leaping into the water below the pier to celebrate his win. While this may seem a little over the top, not too many people can say that they’ve outrun Nico Roseberg in a head-to-head race, so that is certainly a reason to celebrate.
Nico, Charlie and the crew head out in the Model 3 later and do a bit of a rolling review of the car, breaking down the pros and cons of the car, and Rosberg gives the car its props for being a great value at $78K, which is less than 1/3 of the price of the Porsche GT2 RS. Of course, as you’ll see if you click through to the actual YouTube post, the commenters point out that if you put the cars on a real race track and go a few laps, the Porsche will easily put the Tesla in its place.
After seeing the Model 3 at Laguna Seca, I’m not sure it is as simple as that, though. Maybe Nico and Charlie can actually put that theory to the test in a future video.
