Ford’s 8-Second Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 Prototype Calls For an EV Performance Double Take
For many performance enthusiasts, one of the sticking points keeping them from embracing electric technology is the sheer feeling of it.
At the end of the day, a combustion engine making lots of noise has a lot of souls. There’s just something about cranking a car up and hearing it rumble with all of that power beneath your foot that really gets us going. When the throttle is cracked open and this power ends up making it to the ground, we’re instantly hooked. At the end of the day, this sort of phenomenon is what got many of us into the hobby in the first place.
By many accounts, electric technology is simply more effective than combustion. Sure, there’s still some upside to a combustion-powered performance car. However, in the long-haul, we think that electric technology, which is still relatively in its infancy, is definitely going to catch up to combustion engines in most facets.
This leaves us to wonder at what point, if any, enthusiasts will embrace performance over feeling. Even if electric-powered performance cars were far and wide the better option, would they be able to be as embraced as passionately as combustion-powered vehicles have?
This time, we check into one car that is certainly making a strong argument in that direction. While the main focus on electric vehicles right now seems to be efficient in terms of range, some folks are looking at performance on a racing level.
With the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype, we find a lot to love. For those who enjoy their racing in a straight line, this 1500+ horsepower monster has managed an 8.27-second quarter mile at 168 mph. We don’t need a record book in front of us to allow us to figure out that’s incredibly fast.
Below, we get to see the prototype in action as it rockets its way down the drag strip, hanging the front wheels and all. It really leads us to wonder how this sort of technology will eventually trickle down into the consumer performance realm with street Mustangs and other vehicles of the like.
