A Very RARE Opportunity at a Glimpse Inside Don Schumacher Racing Headquarters

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to field eight competitive nitro teams, we have the answer for you with this tour of Don Schumacher Racing, hosted by none other than team owner and former Funny Car standout Don Schumacher himself. With a total of sixteen world championships under their collective belts, DSR has built its reputation by running its massive multi-car operation like a well oiled machine and having each car in their camp capable of winning on any given weekend, a monumental task that requires the commitment of no fewer than 140 employees working tirelessly to make things happen.

With great views of the ever-growing DSR trophy collection serving as the backdrop for the introductory segment, Schumacher discusses where the team began and how it came to be such a large operation, as well as touching on some of the successes the teams have enjoyed. Focus shifts next to the DSR Machine Shop, an expansive manufacturing operation that is home to 21 CNC machines that churn out countless components, from complete engine blocks small pieces used throughout out the engine and chassis building process. Beyond the machine shop, DSR also has its own in-house fab shop that is responsible for building the chassis for each of the individual teams that compete under the DSR banner. With four top fuel teams and four funny cars to keep on the track, there is a constant need for updates and repairs. For the same reason, there is also an in-house carbon fiber shop to keep the funny car bodies and countless carbon fiber components in good working order.

Finally, there’s a fly-by look at all of the team transporters in the shop, offering a great look at the scale of the operation, all of which is housed in the DSR Headquarters’ 150,000 square feet in Brownsburg, Indiana, the home of the operation since 2005. With DSR Racing and Speed Society Racing team driver Leah Pritchett currently leading the points in both Top Fuel and fellow DSR Racing driver Ron Capps leading the points in Funny Car, 2017 is shaping up to be another great season for the team, thanks to the vigilant oversight of Don Schumacher and each of his dedicated employees, machinists, fabricators, crew members and of course, drivers.
