Aghakhani Rolls Into 2021 With a Full Head of Steam, Reflects on Successes of 2020

When the topic of discussion is Steven Aghakhani, it’s hard to not be excited about this kid’s future. As one of the most successful young drivers to get behind the wheel this past year, 2021 is sure to be an equally interesting timeline. After breaking a variety of records as the youngest to do a variety of things, he even went so far as provoking a discussion to lower age limits. If that doesn’t spell out the fact that this kid could really be something special, we’re not sure what will.

Aghakhani recently chimed in with a piece over on Sportscar365, giving us an idea of what to expect when IMSA’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America gets its late start in May with a new kick-off at Circuit of the Americas. He chimed in saying that the Laguna Seca race would normally kick off the season but has been moved to September due to the ongoing pandemic. However, late start or not, Aghakhani says that he looks forward to the event as the “Main event of the year” for himself and his US RaceTronics team and recognizes that these schedule changes are ultimately for the best.

He would go on to talk about the May opener, divulging that “To this day, COTA is still my favorite track ever. In my debut there in 2019 in GT World Challenge America, we topped a practice session and were competitive in both races in our Mercedes-AMG GT3.

I was also lucky enough to test at COTA recently with US RaceTronics and driving our Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo there is really something else.

The car just has so much power and so much aero, and we are flying around the whole track.”

He continues, “After our one race at COTA in 2019, it will be nice to start the 2021 season there. It’s an exciting feeling because we have so much experience with the car and so much experience with the track. We are looking forward to showing what we can do as soon as we get there.”

Yet again, the other half of Aghakhani’s dominant duo in Jacob Eidson will return in 2021, a move that Aghakhani says was “Never really a question.” After becoming a mainstay at the podium, returning in tandem is really a no brainer here.

Aghakhani says “There is no doubt about it; Jacob is an incredibly fast driver and an awesome teammate. We always have some fun on the side, and we always have some great energy going with the team.

Jacob is most definitely one of the best teammates I could have for the Super Trofeo North America series. He is easy going, really comfortable with setup changes, great with the engineers and has a good connection with the team. With Jacob, everything is perfect, he is a great guy, and I couldn’t ask for anyone else.”

Oh yeah, let’s also not forget that, while accomplished, Aghakhani is still pretty young. One might forget it because of all of the records he holds. However, it seems as if the competition is going to be looking over their shoulders for a recent high school grad when the season begins. Most of our older readers were probably trying to figure out how to keep their four-cylinder on the streets. For Aghakhani, though, he’s well on his way to domination in the world of Lamborghini Super Trofeo.

As if things weren’t already going well enough, he informs us, in regards to high school that, “It’s a big burden that has been taken off my shoulders, and I can now put even more time into racing. There is no more school work while I am on a plane, or back in my hotel room, or even right at the track.”

To wrap things up, the young racer urged readers to take a moment to enjoy the new year and remember those who had a rough time in 2020. With the level of maturity and talent that we see with this young gun, it’ll only be a matter of time before he’s going down in the history books.

Keep an eye out for the Aghakhani-Eidson tandem this upcoming May when they find their way to Circuit of the Americas!
