Alex Laughlin In The Speed Society Corvette Sitting in the RvW Number 11 Spot At Light Out 9
After the second full day of competition and two rounds of qualifying, Speed Society’s Alex Laughlin has found a good baseline for his 2012 C6 Corvette and is currently sitting in the number 11 spot in the 32 car field. Laughlin and his crew, headed by his dad Kenny and legendary door slammer tuner Frankie “Madman” Taylor, made a solid A-to-B pass to get some good data on the car, which is all new to Laughlin but no stranger at all to RvsW competition. Alex laid down a solid 4.02 elapsed to take that 11th spot on the ladder with a safe tune in the car that was intended to get the car down the track, which had been questionable for the opening couple of days of the event.
However, the track crew, headed by track manager and prep guru Wade Rich, worked nearly around the clock to bring it back around to the world-class surface expected of the South Georgia Motorsports Park facility. This allowed several cars to make great passes in qualifying and should give all the teams a solid surface for the rest of the weekend. Look for Alex and his team of tuners to tighten the screws and lean out the fuel delivery to put down even more power from the screw blown Hemi powerplant, which has pushed the car into the 3.70’s in the past and should have the car mixing it up with the quickest cars in the class in short order. Qualifying continues shortly with the third session and if conditions allow there may be a 4th session later today. However, the tentative schedule calls for the first round of eliminations tonight, so things may change between now and then. Be sure to tune into the live feed from Motor Mania TV to keep up with all the action to see if Laughlin is able to push the car into the 3 second range and climb higher up the ladder. The rest of the field, led by small tire legend Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson at a 3.80, will also be looking to improve on their elapsed time and qualifying position.
