Alexis DeJoria Walks Away From Scary Situation After Car Catches on Fire and Takes FOREVER to Slow Down

This past weekend at the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, a wild scene would unfold. With Alexis DeJoria behind the wheel, things would get heated in a hurry, quite literally. As she blasted down the track in Funny Car, one of the most terrifying situations imaginable would unfold on the track.

Instead of a crash where things seem to be over in an instant, the car would catch on fire and the scene was drug out for a while. Naturally, when a race car is on fire, the first reaction is going to be to stop. However, with a machine like this, it’s going to take quite a bit of time to slow down from the insane speed that these cars have been known to produce.

Eventually, the car would slow to the point where DeJoria was able to off pop open the top hatch and make her way from the car. In the interview following the race, we would learn that she was simply shaken up a bit. She also commented on her hopes to be able to race with an alternate car and be back in the action soon. It’s pretty intense how she was able to instantly separate herself from the catastrophe that had just happened and shift her focus to the future almost immediately. That’s the kind of focus that top racers use in order to push past all of the hiccups that are sure to come in a winning effort.

Below, we get the opportunity to check in with the moment that truly puts us on edge. When watching something like this, we can’t help but hope that the driver is going to be alright at the end of it all. Luckily, that was exactly the case here as DeJoria will continue on to race another day.
