Apple AirTags Are Being Used to Steal High-End Cars

As technology evolves, so do the schemes that criminals will use to take advantage of regular people. We never know when or where this new tech is going to start getting in the way. However, with a little bit of help, we can learn how to arm ourselves with the knowledge to do the best that we can to stay away from danger, no matter how fast the technology behind it might be developing.

Recently, Apple decided to do start selling personal tracking devices. The technology that goes by the name of “AirTags” is rather handy for people who might lose their keys all the time. Attach an AirTag to your keys or wallet and your phone will tell you where they are and can even make a sound to help you find them in a cluttered drawer.

However, criminals took this technology as a chance to try to steal high-end vehicles.

Essentially, the $29 AirTag tracker will be used by those who aren’t so honest to track down high-end vehicles. Essentially, the tags will be stashed in the target vehicle somewhere like a gas door or maybe even a trailer hitch. From there, that would-be criminal will track the vehicle back to where you live and wait for the right time to strike.

AirTags are equipped with a feature that will send an alert to iPhone users if it seems as if the AirTag is being used to track them in their vehicle. When this happens, the iPhone user will get a notification and have the ability to make the AirTag make a sound which will hopefully allow them to find the tag and disable it.

Down in the video below from KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco, we get to hear a little bit more about how this scheme has been working and what you could do to protect yourself if you think that perhaps somebody might want to track you.
