Barry Mitchell’s Blown 69 Camaro Puts it on the Bumper at No Mercy 7
Radial vs the World is one of the most thrilling classes in all of drag racing, and this is just one example of why. The brainchild of promoter extraordinaire Donald “Duck” Long, RVW pits a wide array of combinations against each other, with the playing field leveled by various weight minimums based on a number of factors, ensuring some of the closest, most electrifying racing you’ll ever see.
Barry Mitchell brought out this brand new blown RVW Camaro with no testing before the No Mercy 7 last fall, and it took him on a wild ride in his semifinal matchup alongside eventual runner-up “Nova Joe” Albrecht in his blown GTO. The two launch together and both appear to be on 3-second passes until Mitchell’s Camaro decides to do it’s best airplane impression and head for the skies above South Georgia Motorsports Park. Barry stays in it as long as he can, but lifts when he has to, deftly returning the car to terra firma and coasting to the shutdown area while Albrecht rips off a 3.82 ET at almost 200 MPH.
Taking a brand new hotrod rounds at one of the biggest races of the year proves just how dedicated Mitchell and his crew are, as that is no easy feat. Hopefully we will see much more of this beautiful Chevy next month at Lights Out 8! Thanks as always to our friend Hans at Free Life Films for his excellent footage.
