Bill Lutz In “Big Boost” 1967 Camaro With A Twin Turbo Hemi Takes On Eric Stubbs

The second season of Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws spinoff No Prep Kings just wrapped up this weekend in Texas at the historic Texas Motorplex. The season has been filled with ups and downs, but has been an overall success.

One great thing about the series, which tours the nation and holds events at facilities large and small, is that it seems to bring out some fresh new faces at each event. Cars and drivers that have never run no prep before head to the track when the NPK crew rolls into town to take their shot at the huge purses and the always lucrative opportunity to be on television.

Both of the racers in this video come from other types of drag racing, although if you follow the sport you’re likely to have heard of both Bill Lutz and Eric Stubbs. Lutz has done a little bit of everything, running this gorgeous Camaro most recently in no time shootouts all across the eastern half of the country. I’d personally lost track of Eric Stubbs over the past couple of years, but I know he made a couple of appearances at SGMP at Donald Long’s radial races, races that Lutz has been to as well.

These two lined up in the small tire class and fans knew that’d be in for a treat since both Stubbs and Lutz are known for throwing down killer runs. Needless to say, they did not disappoint.

Lutz, in the near lane, laid down some fresh rubber alongside Stubbs, both racers hoping to find traction on the unprepped surface. To put it mildly, it worked. When the green lights flashed, both cars left hard, with Stubbs driving into a massive wheelstand about 100 feet downtrack. He would blip the throttle just enough to bring the nose back down, but that little blip just also happened to be what Lutz needed to drive around him and take the win. It’s pretty rare that a car nearly drags the bumper and still only loses by about a car length, proving Stubbs’ skill as a driver.
