Boss 429 Blows up on the Engine Dyno!
As long as no-one is injured and there isn’t any major damage to the shop, dyno explosions are COOL! Of course it’s not cool for the owner of the engine – in this case a gnarly 557 BOSS – who has to watch helplessly as his powerplant self destructs on the stand.
The big Boss really needed an upgraded flywheel to cope with the added torque over the stock Boss 429 configuration. Needless to say, it didn’t get that. In a rush to get the motor on the dyno, they opted to go with a stock flywheel. And because of that, we got this little bit of video gold to bring to you!
Of course, we would never actually wish for an engine failure on the dyno or otherwise, but you have to admit it’s pretty cool to watch as this engine erupts in a shower of sparks when the factory flywheel lets go. The engine’s owner mentioned in the comments that he had $25,000 in the engine and that it made 850 horsepower before biting the bullet. Yikes!
