Breaking: Country Star Troy Gentry of ‘Montgomery Gentry’ Passes Away In Helicopter Crash.

Troy Gentry, best known as one half of the popular country music duo Montgomery Gentry, was killed in a helicopter crash in Pennsylvania on Friday.

The crash occurred in Burlington County, New Jersey around noon on Friday. Early reports provided little info, but we do know two individuals passed away in the crash, presumably Gentry and the chopper’s pilot, whose name has not been released, pending notification of family. Eddie Montgomery, the other half of the duo, was not on board the craft at the time of the crash. It’s unclear what caused the crash. Investigators are on the scene. The news was reported on the duo’s Twitter account:

Montgomery Gentry has been a staple of the country music landscape since the late 90’s, charting some 20 singles, including five that reached the #1 spot on the country chart. Three of their six studio albums went platinum, and the group won duo of the year in 2000, an award they’d been nominated for every year since.

A concert slated for tonight at the airport was cancelled an hour after the crash, as indicated by the report. I can personally say Montgomery Gentry’s music has been a part of my life since they burst onto the scene in 1999, with many of their tunes playing as background music in memories throughout the past 17 years. From “Out Town” to “Something to be Proud Of”, their words often hit home, and even when there was no more connection than being great music, I will always remember the distinctive sound as part of some of the best years of my life.

We send our sincerest condolences to the Gentry family, as well as the massive extended family within the country music community and music industry as a whole. The loss of Gentry will leave a hole in the hearts of many who knew and loved him, both personally and through the gift of music he shared with us all.
