Breaking: Richard Petty Motorsports Aligns With Richard Childress Racing
There is some huge news in the world of NASCAR this morning with the announcement that Richard Petty Motorsports has aligned with Richard Childress Racing for the 2018 season. RPM, which has been flying the Ford banner for the past several seasons, will make the switch to Chevrolet and the great looking new ZL1 Camaro.
Darrell Wallace Jr will be behind the wheel of the iconic “STP Blue” No. 43 car.
Richard Petty Motorsports will relocate to RCR’s Welcome, North Carolina headquarters, a move that Richard Petty himself joked about during the announcement, which was made at the 2017 Performance Racing Industry show.
“We are in the process of moving from where we are now to closer to home, over in Lexington from Mooresville,” Petty told Kickin’ the Tires, a well-respected NASCAR media outlet. “We are off in the corner up at RCR. When you first come in you go by the museum and we’ve got the first building up there, so … we’re on the campus but we’re really not on the campus. We are on the corner of the campus. I guess he (Richard Childress) done that so he could kick us out if we get to causing too much trouble up there.”
Speaking on the alignment as a sort of fresh start, Petty said “We are just doing a lot of new stuff,” he said. “New car, new driver, new place to work on it. What we have been doing in the past has been up and down and up and down but we never really got settled on what we think we need. So, we said let’s just change everything. So, from that standpoint it is going to be a new RPM operation, so it is going to be interesting from that standpoint, too.”
It will be interesting to learn more about the dynamics of this new partnership as the details come to light, but this could be great news for two of the sports legendary teams.
