Built vs Bought Drag Racing – Which is Better?

When it comes to having the ultimate automobile to send down the drag strip, there are two schools of thought.

One school of thought known as “bought” heads straight to the dealership, recognizing that there is some pretty awesome performance to be had straight out of the box. In this class, we find cars like your Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

However, there’s an entirely different school of thought that doesn’t care about your factory performance at all. Oh no, the folks in the “built” camp can take anything from a pickup truck to an old-school sedan and turn it into a machine that can wreak havoc on the dragstrip.

This time, we check in with the Wheels YouTube channel that always takes the liberty of giving us some of the best drag racing footage on four wheels. This time, we check in with the built versus bought competition to see which one of these schools of thought will have the edge when they go to the toe in a straight-up quarter-mile drag race.

In all seriousness, it looks like some of the “bought” cars actually have a little bit of a built quality to them too. However, it’s still pretty neat to watch and see some of the vehicles that weren’t meant to go fast competing with vehicles that were. I guess that at the end of the day, something like this shows us that when you pull up to the track, you had better be on your toes and know what to look out for. It doesn’t matter what the platform is, what’s under the hood could be something that is ready to lay down a hurting.

By following along with the video below, we get to check in with a variety of competitors as this built versus bought showdown unfolds. When push comes to shove, I don’t think that one could really go wrong picking either of these camps as there are plenty of awesome rides to choose from no matter which way we go.
