Can Engine Oil Be Proven To Last 20,000 Miles?
As it turns out, everything that has to do with a car has some sort of opinion behind it, at least when it comes to how to maintain a car or even figuring out which car to buy. You’ll find that with all sorts of different things there are different points of view flying around about how you should carry out each. Just when you thought that everyone was on the same page with an idea like that you have to change your oil every 3000-5000 or so miles, out comes more information that makes you doubt even that and different types of oil which promise different heights.
Now, rumors have been floating around that, in your average daily driver, those rule of thumb guidelines are a little bit more extreme than reality and have been perpetuated by the oil industry in order to make you pick up oil more often, essentially fueling their whole operation by creating new purchases. While there are people who are very confident in that information that they don’t need to change the oil every 3000 miles, others still do it anyway. However, Mobil 1 has come out with a product that promises way more than the average oil guidelines would recommend, diminishing your need to wonder if you’re getting the most life out of your oil because this oil promises plenty of it!
Down in the video below, you can go through this interesting product with the guys over Engineering Explained to explore the oil that promises to give you 20,000 miles per change or up to one year, whichever comes first. That’s right, for the average driver, that would mean that you would only have to change the oil once a year. While changing the oil certainly isn’t something that is all that difficult, it’s a task that is a lot easier to avoid doing and just put off until later. I think that if people end up buying into this 20,000-mile motor oil that they would be much more content by removing several changes per year.
