Check Out Some Of The Coolest Moments From The Mach Loop From The Past Year

If you’ve never heard of the Mach Loop, you need to just stop reading this now (but come back after you’ve finished your homework) and look it up. There is plenty of footage on YouTube, some great info on Wikipedia, and much more out there about this amazing spot, so you owe it to yourself to go find out all about it.

Now that you’ve educated yourself, you can better understand how this YouTuber is able to get eye-level footage of some of the baddest jets in the world, he’s put together a montage of some of his best footage from the past year. There’s a little bit of everything, including some RAF F-15’s, a massive Airbus A400, and the soon-to-be-retired Tornado GR4, also from the Royal Air Force. One of the highlights for me was the held-plane hybrid Osprey that comes sweeping through the valley. While it’s hardly the screaming aerial acrobat most of the planes are, it’s definitely cool to see!

While I’ll admit I’m hardly versed in military training or maneuvers, it does look like these pilots are doing some pretty intense training, flying through the valleys of the Mach Loop at astonishing speeds and with the precision required to fly for the RAF. You can tell these guys know exactly what they’re doing strapped into the cockpit of these awesome machines as they swoop and dive through the passages between the mountains.

I also have to give the camera guy some serious props for his steady hand and quick target acquisition. As a photographer of high-speed action, I can tell you it’s not always easy to find what you’re looking for through the viewfinder, especially if it’s moving really fast against a background it’s designed to blend in with. But this guy does a stellar job of tracking the planes while they’re in the frame and finding them quickly when swapping from subject to subject. He’s obviously filmed here before and knows the challenges well, and has enough experience to master the techniques required to capture these planes in action.
