Civilians and Police Line the 101 Freeway to Honor Fallen Sergeant

The story that is still developing, late Wednesday night, would have a shooter would open fire in a California bar, Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, firing at a group of an estimated 200 people and killing 12 people including one police officer who had come to the scene to attempt to save the innocent, running toward the ring of gunshots instead of following the internal instinct that had civilians running away. After the shooter went on this horrid tirade, he would eventually turn the gun on himself to end his own life.

Today, in California, on the 101 Freeway, supporters of the officer had gathered to show their admiration and respect for the family and comrades of the fallen as the 101 would be shut down and all lanes dedicated to a procession. It was quite incredible a sight as people would show up to pay their condolences in a scene that was really something that this man who dedicated his life to the safety of those around him would have been proud of.

Citizens lined the freeway, side-by-side with LA County Sherriff’s Department officers as they show the respect for the fallen Sgt. Ron Helus. We here at Speed Society would like to offer our condolences to all people have been affected by this tragic undertaking, a series of events which no family should have to endure and one that has taken a great man and servant of his community far too soon.

In the video below, cameras are on the scene to capture the moment in which people were able to come together as one in order to show their respects to a true hero. We commend those who exited their cars and came to the roadside for a selfless individual who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of protecting others.
