Clay Millican And Doug Herbert Host “Free” Pro Active Safe Driving School Event

NHRA and team Speed Society driver Clay Millican has teamed up with BRAKES to help promote the awesome safe driving program. BRAKES is a great program for young drivers to help them identify and safely navigate some real-world situations they’re likely to encounter while they’re driving. With a growing number of distractions in their faces, this type of training could not come at a better time.

BRAKES stands for Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe and was founded by former NHRA top fuel racer Doug Herbert after his sons, James and Jon, lost their lives in a tragic car crash in 2008. Herbert was determined to use his grief from the loss of his boys to help train young drivers to be more confident and conscientious behind the wheel. Their Teen Proactive Driving School training puts young driver in situations that arise on a daily basis and teaches them how to proceed in the safest possible way. From accident avoidance to skid control, the school gives students a chance to experience the various situations and navigate them properly under the careful supervision of professional drivers on closed courses. After completing the BRAKES training, your young driver will be better equipped to slide behind the wheel than ever before.

Their next school will be held at Memphis International Raceway on September 9th and 10th, with several other dates to follow across the nation. The classes are free, but do require a $99 refundable deposit to secure your reservation. At least one parent is required to join and classes are scheduled in 4-hour blocks. There is a great deal of info on their Put On The Brakes website.

If you have a young driver, even if they seem to be doing a great job behind the wheels, send them to a BRAKES school anyway. These classes are great ways for kids to understand what’s happening on the road and how to best deal with whatever situations do arise.
