Clay Millican Rockets to the Top in Qualifying Friday at the 4 Wide Nats
For the second week in a row, Clay Millican sits atop the qualifying ladder in Top Fuel, and while two qualifying sessions will be run today, the balmy weather predicted for the day should prevent anyone from bettering Millican’s stellar 3.716 elapsed time. Millican is looking for his first NHRA Top Fuel victory, a feat which has narrowly eluded him many times throughout his career.

Millican was quick to credit crew chief David Grubnic with focusing the team on consistency in hopes of putting the Great Clips-sponsored dragster into the winner’s circle for the first time. Clay racked up six world championships with the IHRA when they ran top fuel, where 8 car fields meant he only had to win 3 rounds of racing to take home the win. After several years with the NHRA, Millican sits at #2 on the career runner-up list, a stat he says he’s not thrilled about.
Hopefully he and his team can put together a string of passes that will put them into the win column and get that runner-up monkey off their backs.
