Comparing the 4 Different Types of Superchargers – Which is Best?

When it comes to superchargers, you might have noticed that there are all sorts of different types. For somebody in the market, they can choose from a roots style supercharger, a centrifugal supercharger, a twin-screw supercharger, or an electric supercharger.

All of these units will do relatively the same thing at the end of the day. However, they definitely aren’t all created the same way. In fact, each one is going to deliver boost in a completely different method. Just when you thought that you had it pinned down and you knew that you wanted to go with a supercharger over a turbo, another set of options comes into the picture. Having options is always a good thing. It does mean that you’re going to have to make yet another decision, though.

Not only is each one of these superchargers designed differently. Each one seems to have its very own set of strengths and weaknesses. With this in mind, it’s going to take a little bit more research to figure out which one is best for your particular build. At the end of the day, it all comes down to preferences and priorities. The way that you’re going to use your car plays a big role in the choice.

Luckily, our host over at Engineering Explained is going to break it all down for us. In this one, we learn about all of the differences and nuances of each separate unit. At the end of the day, it’s going to be a tough choice to make. However, differentiating between each application is going to be incredibly helpful in making the decision.
After all, knowledge is power!

By following along with the video below, we get the entire breakdown. In typical Engineering Explained fashion, we end up learning more than we ever thought we could possibly know about some of the differences between the applications.
