Container Ship Snaps in Half During Massive Storm

Container ships are generally pretty impervious to all but the most intense of storms, their massive size providing enough stability to weather the wind and waves.

However, sometimes the storm proves too much and overwhelms the huge vessels, as we see in this footage from GlobalLeaks News. This ship has been pushed against the shore and pounded against the rocks to the point that it’s broken in half. A rescue chopper hovers nearby with a rescue crewman dangling at the ready on the winch cable, but all they can do is watch as the ship rocks around unpredictably in the storm.

The ship withstands as much of the abuse as it can handle, finally splitting in half completely as the relentless waves continue to pound the broken ship as the video fades to black. There’s no telling how much cargo was lost, but hopefully the crew was rescued safely before the ocean claimed the ship forever.
