Water Cooled 72,000 Lumen LED Flashlight!!
Well, if you’re ever lost in the woods, or for that matter, anywhere on the planet, this light just might save your life. The video goes into good detail about how this guy, YouTuber Samm Sheperd, built this ridiculous light source, and it’s honestly not that complicated. We can tell you it has to be pretty powerful because he used a trio of RC car batteries that pump out about 12 watts of power each, meaning he has 36 watts of power running through these eight LED bulbs.
The light itself looks like a Macgyver special, and just like Macgyver’s impromptu inventions, it works amazingly well. With that much power coursing through the lights, there’s a good bit of heat being generated, so Samm decided to included a water cooling system that keeps temperatures in check by cycling water through a small cooling system from a desktop computer. There’s even a tiny water pump to ensure the coolant flows well enough to do the job.
When Sheperd takes the light out for testing, it is mind blowing just how powerful this thing is. He uses a cheap 500 lumen flashlight and a more expensive 1,000 lumen flashlight for comparison and his setup makes them look completely laughable when it comes to brightness and beam spread. Of course, this light is more like a flood style beam than a flashlight, which usually offers a smaller beam to focus on a certain area.
This design is even brighter than car high beams by a large margin, putting the headlights to shame when it’s switched on, giving you an idea of just how amazingly bright this thing is. We’d imagine it could even be used to signal passing aircraft, or perhaps even being visible to the astronauts on the International Space Station. Who knows… this just might be how we are finally able to communicate with aliens!
