Crazy Mechanic Crams a Cummins Turbo Diesel into a 240SX

Several years ago, this build made some huge waves in the automotive community because, at the time, diesel swaps were very rare and for the most part were only reserved for pickup trucks whose owners wanted that trademark diesel torque over the gas burner that came in their truck. This guy decided a 4BT Cummins was the perfect swap for his 240SX and set about making his vision a reality.

The first step was obviously getting rid of the factory power plant and securing an engine for the swap, which came from a bread delivery truck. There aren’t any real details available as far as modifications done to the engine itself, but the video description does say it’s intercooled, which 4BT’s aren’t from the factory, and it’s built to handle up to 50 PSI, which should push the horsepower levels well into the “get s**t done” range.

As far as drawbacks, the only one we see is the weight of the engine, which will throw off the weight balance of the car due to being quite a bit heavy on the front. However, if the guy plans of hitting the drift course with the car, that may be an advantage, as it will keep the front wheels planted while the rears are free to spin and slide about. The engine actually looks right at home in the 240 engine bay and sounds pretty healthy, so it should draw a lot of attention, if for no other reason than its uniqueness.

The 4BT Cummins only makes about 105 horsepower in stock form, but with a little tweaking and some bolstering of the internals, and of course an increase in the amount of air being crammed into the intake, the engines can be made to put down massive power and torque, meaning the car is capable of performing well and definitely looks the part. The massive front mount intercooler and custom sheetmetal lower valence add to the badass front profile, while the straight pipe exhaust lets anybody within earshot know this thing is not to be messed with.
