D10 steam locomotive found 100 years later underwater after it sank in 1910
If there is one place that you would not expect to find a locomotive, that place would be under the surface of a body of water. However, after derailing, this D10 steam locomotive, CPR 694, would meet its tragic demise at the very bottom of Lake Superior.
After sinking to the bottom of the lake, the train would remain undisturbed for over 100 years until now when the efforts of a couple of folks would head down under the surface to explore through the wreckage surrounding the crash and what they found is as equally as cool as it is creepy.
It’s amazing to see how everything works when the dust has all settled all of these years later as this locomotive rests in the most unlikely and unfamiliar of places. Imagine what you would be thinking if you didn’t know it was there and you stumbled upon something like this by mistake.
Check out the incredible footage as we are taken down to what’s left of this once great and powerful machine. You never know what you’re going to find out there under the surface of the water. This is one of the many great mysteries that makes the open sea and lakes like this so interesting to explore.
