Death Trap Chuck vs Larry Baker’s TT Impala at Bristol’s 100k race
Earlier this week, Discovery Channel held it’s first ever promoted race, and they hit a homerun, proving the outstanding draw of the Street Outlaws brand. With almost no outside promotion and only a weeks notice, the event sold out the 25,000 capacity Thunder Valley Raceway in Bristol, Tennessee. In fact, there were fans not only packed in the stands, but lined up several deep along the fences as well.
The main draw, of course, was the cars from Street Outlaws, including Chuck, current #1 on the 405’s Top 10 list, and his wicked twin turbo small block-powered Death Trap Mustang. Chuck has had a great season, not only on the show, but on the no prep scene, where he’s laid down some stellar runs now that he has big tires under the Death Trap.
Another car that’s made a bit of a splash on the no prep scene is the gorgeous twin turbo Impala of Larry Baker from the Bakers Rod Shop camp. Both cars lay down some nice fresh rubber with their burnouts, then back up and stage. When the tree drops, Chuck and Larry lay down one of the best side by side races of the whole event, with Chuck eeking out the win by about a car length. There’s no denying Chuck has the Death Trap working incredibly well right now after watching this killer pass. This is also a great run for Baker, who has been making great strides in getting his car lined out over the past few events.
We have to wonder, after putting on such a huge event with almost no real promotion or notice, if Discovery will try to get into the race promotion game. They certainly put the world on notice when they were having to turn fans away because the place was packed. Although admission was free, we’re willing to bet each of the supposed 30,000 fans would have paid to watch their favorite Street Outlaws cars throwing down at Thunder Valley.
