Death Trap Chuck vs Procharged Nova at Tucson Street Outlaws No Prep
Following the huge turnout and response to the Bristol No Prep event episode, Discovery Channel took the show west and rolled into Tucson Dragway for another race with a nice fat check for the winner. With another huge group of stars from the show as well as some of the biggest names in no prep racing on the property, that $40,000 check would certainly be earned, with the winner almost guaranteed to have to take out some heavy hitters on the way to the win.
Chuck and his Death Trap Mustang have to be considered a threat to win at any event just based on how well the car hooks even when traction is limited, such as at a no prep event like this one. One of the reasons Chuck is one to watch is because he always runs his race, pushing the Death Trap as hard as he thinks he can each pass while keeping the tires planted. That keeps him from underestimating an opponent that may be new to the scene or that Chuck hasn’t ran into before, like this killer looking and strong sounding orange Chevy Nova. With a Vortech supercharged engine under the hood and a low and lean chassis with big tires out back, this car has all of the pieces in place to lay down a solid run and could certainly throw down a run that sends the former OKC #1 man to the trailer.
Knowing that, Chuck dialed up all the ponies his twin turbo small block could muster and did everything in his power to make it stick. The result was nothing short of stellar with the Mustang plating the tires and launching hard into the southern Arizona afternoon, leaving the Nova in his dust. For what it’s worth, the Chevy II did spin, forcing the driver to pedal the throttle, but it really didn’t look like it would have mattered based on the ridiculous run Chuck laid down.
Chuck’s car did smoke a tad on top end, possibly damaging the engine and causing the car to skate around a tad. However, he kept it in his lane and took the win by a pretty large margin, securing himself a spot in the next round.
