Elon Musk Releases All of Tesla’s Patents, One Step Closer to Being Real Life Tony Stark
With the way that the transportation industry has been evolving, it seems like, within the past couple of years, big changes have been made in order to create transportation that is more environmentally friendly. Even though horsepower is our drug of choice, it’s not hard to see that, in some capacity, this is an incredibly important evolution in technology to make when it comes to the common commute. While progress seems to be absolutely flying at this point, Elon Musk doesn’t think that it’s been going fast enough as he’s recently released all of Tesla’s patents with the hopes of battling the world’s carbon crisis.
In a statement, Musk said that he “Will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.” Basically, Musk has been all about pushing transportation into the future and keeping it sustainable as his main goal, adding that holding back the patents would be quite contradictory to that goal. He would continue to divulge by saying that there’s no way Tesla can make enough cars to combat the environmental issues at stake all on his own, so opening the patents will hopefully encourage others to try and help out.
Musk made a good point in saying that patents stifle progress. While patents are a necessary part of building as removing them from the equation would also remove the incentive to create, we also see Musk’s point in the idea that sometimes, it could be important for sacrifices to be made for the greater good. We think, that with this step and being the technological savior that the world might just be yearning for, Musk takes one more step toward being the real-life Tony Stark, himself.
We aren’t quite sure what “good faith” from Musk’s statement entails but it will certainly be interesting to see how the industry takes this news and applies it to the world of wheels as we know it.
