Fireball Camaro vs Texas Anarchy at Tucson Street Outlaws No Prep
Following the huge turnout and response to the Bristol No Prep event episode, Discovery Channel took the show west and rolled into Tucson Dragway for another race with a nice fat check for the winner. With another huge group of stars from the show as well as some of the biggest names in no prep racing on the property, that $40,000 check would certainly be earned, with the winner almost guaranteed to have to take out some heavy hitters on the way to the win.
On paper this race probably shouldn’t have even taken place, with one car being badly outgunned. In the left lane, you have the Fireball Camaro, powered by a twin turbo ProLine 481X and rolling on big tires. Lined up against the Fireball is a Mustang known as Texas Anarchy, a car powered by a single turbocharged cast block engine and riding on 10.5” slicks out back. It’s the perfect setup for a Cinderella story upset, but this is no prep racing, no a fairy tale.
I’ll give the guy credit for bringing a really badass knife to this gunfight, but he had to know going in he’d be fighting an uphill battle, and he ran into a fully automatic machine gun when he drew Fireball and it got pretty ugly. Both cars did their burnouts to lay down some fresh, hot rubber on the track to help with traction, then backed up and prepared for the battle at hand.
As soon as the green light flashed, Fireball left hard and straight, putting a gap on Anarchy before they got past the downtrack cameraman who was stationed just past the sixty foot clocks. Both cars make solid runs, but the Fireball just has too much power and traction to keep in interesting, stretching the lead as the cars traversed the Arizona eighth. Fireball would move on to the next round while the Mustang would have to retire to the pits for the afternoon.
