First Demon on the West Coast Knocks Down a Sub 10-Second Time Slip!
Ah, yes! Ladies and gentlemen, the horsepower is in the air and it’s a great time to be alive. Just a couple of years ago even, a nine-second factory production car seemed to be something that was simply out of reach, at least when you consider machines that could be accessible to the average person, however, fast forward and as 2018 rolls around on the calendar, things look pretty bright and if they keep going at this rate, it won’t be long before a whole plethora of cars find their way into the nine-second quarter mile range straight out of the box.
One car that has definitely made that promise is none other than the Dodge Demon. You’ve been seeing the marketing materials for these cars for a long time and now that they finally made their way to the track, it’s time to put up or shut up, seeing if the actual real world cars will be able to do exactly what Dodge had promised. So far, they’re off to a good start as, in this video, we see you Demon rocket down to the track in what is said to be the first sub 10-second pass that one of these cars has made. It’s kind of tough to see the scoreboard from this angle but, from what we understand, the car reached out and touched a 9.95-second pass, just three-tenths of a second off of what Dodge promised.
Now, If you’re at all familiar with what exactly three-tenths of a second means in a quarter mile, you know that it’s quite a bit of time so what gives? Why are the Demons hanging out in the high-nines when they should be somewhere in the mid-nines? In my personal opinion, I would be inclined to say that folks are figuring out that it’s not so easy to drive such a fast car. You don’t simply hop in the machine and punch the peddle to go but instead, it might take just a little bit of practice before they get it all figured out.
In addition, not all tracks are created equal as different density altitudes and levels of surface preparation may limit what a machine can do. Time will definitely tell the story but for now, we’re incredibly excited to see where the Demon is going to end up doing in factory trim, especially when the tracks in the north east open back up and they really get some good air flowing through them!
