Flame Throwing Lamborghini Aventador vs Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous Drag Racing

Tesla’s P100D has made some serious waves since it’s launch, setting records and surprising some pretty badass cars on the track and on the street. It’s no secret, though, that the car is a dig race monster, but not so spectacular once that initial burst of acceleration is over. Don’t get me wrong, the car runs some solid trap speeds in the 1/4 mile, but it’s that 0-60 that really makes the Tesla such a beast from a dig.

Line one up beside a car like this wicked Lamborghini Aventador, a car that tops out well above the 200 MPH mark, and you have the makings for a hell of a drag race, given enough space for the Lambo to get rolling and reel in the all-electric Tesla. So, that’s exactly what these guys decided to do, and let’s just say the outcome isn’t so pretty for the P100D, even with “Ludicrous” mode activated!

As expected, went he hammers drop, the Tesla jumps out to a pretty solid lead, but just a couple of seconds into the race, the Lambo stops fading back, then begins to reel. Once the Italian supercar builds up a little steam, it’s game over for the Tesla, as the Aventador screams by and pulls away to a big lead. This really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to anybody who understands why the battery-powered Tesla is so quick out of the hole but runs out of steam up top. Electric cars, as we’ve learned from Jason at Engineering Explained, have single-speed transmissions, which allows them to apply all of their power at once, but limits the top end pull due to the engine only being able to spin so fast.

Meanwhile, the Lambo has no such issue, with it’s gearbox allowing the V12 engine to stay within the safe operating RPM range while carrying the car to a top speed of 217 MPH.
