Ford F-150 Battles New Dodge Ram in Stock Truck Shootout

Even in completely stock form, guys will race just about anything, including their daily driver workhorse pickup trucks. There is definitely more than one guy out there who has weighed the options between any two trucks and had the decision come down to which one was faster.

The guys over at Kunes Country TV decided to take two of 2018’s most talked-about pickups and put them head to head in a drag race to find out if the 2018 Ford F150 or the 2018 Dodge Ram is quicker off the line.

The F150, America’s best selling vehicle over the past three decades, underwent a mid-cycle redesign, getting a fresh new front end and some new offerings under the hood, including the first ever diesel offered in an F150 model. For this test, the Kunes Country TV team chose a 5.0 liter powerplant mated to the 10 speed automatic from the Raptor variant.

The Dodge is actually a 2019 model Ram, and while the front end got a great new design, the 5.7 liter engine is largely unchanged from the previous generation beyond the aesthetic upgrades, which I have to say do give the truck an edge when it comes to appearance. However, we aren’t here to talk about looks, we’re here to see who wins in a quarter mile shootout, so on to the results.

In the first round of the best-of-three matchup, the trucks are locked in a virtual dead heat for the length of the quarter mile. Only barely does the F150 take the win, edging out the Ram by a fender at the stripe. For the second round, the drivers switch trucks and go at it again. This time, the out come is clear early on and by the time they reach the finish line, the F150 has pulled out to a lead that would be measured best by using a school bus.

I don’t know what happened to make such a big difference in the second race, but the F150 was the clear winner for sure, so if you’re looking to buy one of these two and have them in a tie after measuring all other factors, here’s your deciding moment.
