How Ford Manages to Make an F-150 Every 53 Seconds

Last year, the Ford F-Series was the best selling vehicle in America. According to Motor 1, there were 909,330 units sold in the States. For those that don’t have their calculators, this means that roughly 2,491 were sold each day. That’s getting close to two of them being sold each and every minute. This means that a Ford F-series truck has to be produced every 53-seconds to fill the demand. Thought flat rate was demanding? Think again.

Sure, a lot of the process is automated. However, that isn’t to say that it’s easy or simple. While Ford has certainly gotten it down to a science, there is still a lot to be done. Everything from the fluids to the body panels need to be accounted for. Until we start to think about how a vehicle comes together like this, it’s easy to forget how many components are working together at one time. If just one is out of place, the truck can’t be sold. That makes this manufacturing effort even more impressive!

This time, Justin Dugan and AmericanTrucks Ford take us on a factory tour to see how Ford manages to do it. all Short of pure magic, it looks like the company pulls out every last stop. In order to produce enough trucks to satisfy Americans alone, they have to have a well-oiled machine that’s putting them together.

By following along with the video below, we get to see that 53-seconds of magic. As it takes 12-minutes to explain it all, we learn that there is a lot crammed into that 53-seconds.

To put it all in perspective, just imagine what you can do in that amount of time. If you’re anything like the average human, it’s probably not that much! Heck, it even took me much longer to write this article!
