Ford Now Has a Patent On Autonomous Police Cars That Can Issue Tickets

I try to keep my tin foil hat put away and only bring it out for special occasions, such as discussions about 9/11 being an inside job and Russian’s interfering with US elections, but after watching this video, I immediately grabbed it, added a couple of fresh layers of aluminum foil and secured it safely atop my melon.

I can’t help but feel that, if this proposed idea comes to life, things are going to take a drastic turn toward the US being a much less enjoyable place to live. Ford Motor Company has issues a patent application for a self-driving, fully autonomous police car that can detect drivers breaking the law, pursue and cite them. What’s honesty the most bothersome aspect of this is the premise that they won’t have to actually stop the offending driver and issue the citation. According to the patent application, the police cruiserbot will pursue the lawbreaker and scan their plates, link up with the records on file for the car, and issue a citation virtually.

Guys, this is literally terrifying. The thought of a vehicle being able to carry out the duties that an officer has to train at a minimum of several months to do is just absolutely ridiculous. It just seems as if there is entirely too much at risk to leave such a task up to a robot, especially the notion of driving a car on a busy road full of people. It seems like the car would be one sensor failure short of causing a major accident. Plus what’s to say they can’t be hacked by those who would use them or evil instead of good.

To be honest, I am one of “those guys” who thinks speeding should quite literally be the last thing on an officer’s priority list, though I do refrain from asking them “Shouldn’t you be out arresting murderers and thieves?” when I see them in public, partly out of respect for them and partly because I don’t want to become a target of their harassment.

What do you guys think about the idea of a self-driving, fully functional police car doing the work of a human officer? We’d love to hear your feedback!
