GM May Add Supercharged Corvette Power to Tahoe, Silverado Models.

One trend that we’re fully on board with is the resurgence of fun trucks.

This includes everything from models like the Ford Raptor, designed to take on the road less traveled, all the way to the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the SUV that packs Hellcat power and is ready to destroy the streets.

For a couple of years, there was a pretty substantial gap in production. During these years, we didn’t see much attention in the performance heavyweight division. The effort that we did see was rather lackluster. Sure, there might have been an example here and there. These days, though, it seems like big and fun vehicles are making their way back.

As far as full-size trucks and SUVs, General Motors is the only American manufacturer that hasn’t really done too much here. However, if what they’re saying in the rumor mill is true, we might be in for quite a surprise.

According to different releases from TFL Truckthe watercooler says more performance trucks could be on the horizon. All of this news is speculation from anonymous sources. However, a lot of it just seems to make logical sense. When it comes to the Silverado and Tahoe, it wouldn’t take very much retooling to offer up the option of GM’s high-performance V8.

The upgrade is speculated to come in three packages.

The first offering that will allegedly sport the supercharged LT4 found in the current Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the Chevrolet Silverado ZRX.

Previous to the LT4 speculation, the development of the ZRX was already said to be underway. From what we understand, the full-size truck will follow in the footsteps of Chevy’s Colorado ZR2. The truck would likely be an off-road variation of the Silverado to compete with the likes of the Ford Raptor and Ram Rebel TRX. While the LT4 isn’t likely to be standard, it is rumored to be an option.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Tahoe SS is a newer addition to the LT4-powered rumor mill. Presumably, the truck will pick up where the Trailblazer SS left off with an update including a decade worth of technology.

The 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque offered in the LT4 would make for a pretty fun addition to these full-size beasts. It’s also rumored that General Motors has been considering a high-performance Cadillac Escalade as well. It doesn’t take much creative genius to hop to the conclusion that this would likely come in the form of the LT4 as well.
