Google self-driving car breaks cover
Google has revealed its first autonomous vehicle prototype. Designed to operate safely without human intervention, the self-driving car does away with a steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedal, replacing these traditional components with software. The prototype, which has a limited top speed of 25 mph, features sensors that remove blind spots as well as detecting far away objects. Google plans to build approximately 100 development vehicles for testing, although these will initially be fitted with manual controls.
