Hennessey Venom F5: America’s NEW Hypercar
Somewhere out here in the great thesaurus that is the internet is a word that means the same as wicked, beautiful, badass, absurd, and enthralling. If any of you guys stumble across that word, let me know. Until then, I’ll have to use that assortment of words to describe the new Hennessey Venom F5, a car the specialty vehicle manufacturer has boldly named “America’s Hypercar”.
The F5, named for the most powerful category on the Fujita wind speed scale used to measure the strength of tornadoes, will feature a 1,600 horsepower twin turbocharged V8 powerplant mated to a 7-speed gearbox that is expected to push the car to some ridiculous numbers on the performance stat sheet. Besides the insane power levels, the car is also designed to be as slippery and svelte as possible, allowing each of those 1,600 ponies to gallop a little easier at speed.
And speaking of speed, Hennessey has boldly predicted the car, which is currently still in development, will be the first road-going car to eclipse the magical 300 MPH club, as well as outrunning an Formula 1 car in 0-186 MPH time. The car is also expected to complete the vaunted 0-249MPH-0 test in under 30 seconds.
Weighing in at just 2,950 pounds and with a 0.33 drag coefficient, the car certainly should have a great shot at backing up these claims and predictions. The company in only planning to build 24 F5’s and the cost will be $1.6 million. If you have that kind of change laying around, we’re sure you can jockey for a spot in line and see if you’re chosen as one of the lucky two dozen who will get to drive off in one of the most ridiculous rides ever conceived. Hopefully somebody we know our here in sunny Southern California will get their hands on one and bring it by the Speed Society headquarters and let us strap it on our Mustang Dyno to see just how many of those ponies make it to the rear wheels!
