High Speed Video of Pistols Underwater
Have you ever been watching a Hollywood action flick when you saw someone being fired at underwater and wondered how it would really work? When seeing something like that, you can kind of drift into the thought of how guns could fire underwater or how the projectiles fired from them would be able to keep on moving as the water provided resistance. This time, we get into a little bit of both of those topics as YouTuber, Smarter Every Day, dives into the topic with a controlled experiment that’s complimented by a slow motion camera to capture all of the action.
In this one, we get an up close and personal look as a couple of different handguns are fired off under the surface of the water and observed by the camera. When the footage is played back in slow motion, you can really get a good idea of just how this type of situation interacts with the environment and what one would expect should they, for whatever reason, be left to fire a gun in a circumstance where it would be fully submerged. It’s situations like these that really stretches the mind out to wonder about where the boundaries in physics lie.
Check out the video below and tell us what you think of this underwater firing procedure that unfolds right in front of us at a pace that’s a lot slower and allows you to see more than you would be able to with the naked eye alone! Afterward, be sure to tell us what you took home from this little experiment and what elements you would play around with to make a different outcome here.
I’m sure that there are a ton of parameters, like weapon type for starters, that could change the outcome of this experiment!
